Every Student Deserves a Classroom

Teays Valley Local School District is Seeking Community Approval of a $64 million bond in May 2025. The bond supports building 2 Intermediate buildings, grades 5 and 6, with expansion options for the future. One will be built on East’s campus and the other on Scioto/West’s campus on land already owned by the district.

A Phased Approach

We’re using a phased approach with school-contributed funds after the March 2024 bond request failed.

Phased Plan

Starts smaller and allows for future expansion.

Enrollment Projections

Expansion expected within 3-5 years of phase 1 opening.

Community Request

Responds to the need for a smaller initial bond amount.

Redistricting

We have to redistrict to manage our current enrollments. The longer new buildings are put off by the community failing the bond issue, the more the current challenges, and expenses, grow. Redistricting is not the solution.

Official Ballot/Bond Language

The District plans to go to the voters for a new Bond Levy in the amount of $64,390,000 for 37 years. The millage that will appear on the ballot is for 3.26 Mills, which equates to $114.10 per $100,000 home annually. Per what is required by the Ohio Revised Code, this is the gross amount of millage estimated to repay the new project.

However, due to the existing 2015 Bonds maturing at the end of 2027, the increase in millage will be offset by the upcoming reduction in millage. This causes the taxpayers to see an additional net increase of only 1.50 Mills, which equates to $52.50 per $100,000 home annually, to their taxes beginning in 2026. Additionally, the District anticipates a second millage reduction as illustrated above in 2035 of 1.50 Mills once the 2016AB Bonds mature.

Why Now & Why These Buildings?

Teays Valley is a district of choice and continues to add more homes daily. These students need classrooms & reasonable class sizes.
Construction costs will continue to increase, so a "no" vote will only make the project more expensive in the future.

Modular Classrooms are Insufficient.

They decrease safety, learning flexibility, and your home value. Let's not choose to add more.
We currently have more than 90 students in modular classrooms. If we do not pass the bond issue, modular classrooms will cost our district an estimated $18.7-$20.5 million over ten years.

We have surpassed enrollment projections.

In ten years, we have increased by 753 students. This number is only growing.

Invest in Assets that Add Value

Buildings with appropriate sized learning spaces for our students and teachers are needed.
Your biggest financial investment is your home, and your biggest emotional investment is your children, and you need to protect both by supporting this issue. You’re only as strong as your school system. Both your house, and your family.

Drive our district or tour a school & you will understand the need. Many of our buildings are already exceeding capacity!

The Teays Valley Board of Education approved a master plan to build two new intermediate buildings on school district owned property. This is a long term solution, not a bandage, for the growth our district will continue to feel for years to come. This community supported solution solves our current needs and our future growth.
